SPRINGDALE, Ark. — This August, Downtown Springdale Alliance is inviting Northwest Arkansas to slow down, meet new people, and spend Saturdays a little differently.
Launching Saturday, August 8, Picnic in the Park is a new four-week series designed to transform Luther George Park into Downtown Springdale's place to gather, unwind, and enjoy the simple things: good food, good music, and good company.
At the heart of the experience is a giant community picnic blanket stretching across the lawn, creating one shared space where strangers become neighbors, friends reconnect, and Downtown Springdale becomes a place people don't just visit...they stay awhile.
Unlike a traditional community event built around stages, activities, attractions or scheduled programming, Picnic in the Park is intentionally simple. The experience isn't built around watching something - it's built around being somewhere.
Guests are encouraged to grab lunch from a Downtown Springdale restaurant, bring their own picnic, or enjoy offerings from local food vendors before settling onto the lawn for an afternoon soundtracked by a different local DJ each week.
"We wanted to create something that feels less like an event and more like a place people naturally want to be", said Nando Garcia, Director of Events, Programming, & Brand Activations. “A place where you can meet friends, slow down, breathe deeper, and discover Downtown in a new way.”
Each Saturday will feature a different local DJ curating laid-back sets inspired by soul, R&B, chill house, Latin, and global sounds - giving every weekend its own personality.
The series reflects Downtown Springdale Alliance's continued investment in creating experiences that strengthen community, support local businesses, and activate public spaces in fresh, meaningful ways. By encouraging visitors to pick up lunch from Downtown restaurants before heading to the park, Picnic in the Park also creates new opportunities to explore and support the businesses that make Downtown Springdale unique.
Whether you're coming with friends, meeting someone new, taking a break from the week, or simply looking for a place to unwind outdoors, Picnic in the Park offers a welcoming place to spend a Saturday afternoon.
