Springdale, AR – The Downtown Springdale Alliance awarded grants to four local artists to create murals in downtown Springdale. The program is intended to improve the downtown’s aesthetics and engage local artists by enhancing building facades. A grant from the Walton Family Foundation at the recommendation of Steuart Walton and Tom Walton supports this effort.

Thirty-three artists and eight property owners applied for the grant. Applications were received and reviewed by a committee of artists and non-artists. The committee also worked to connect the artists with downtown Springdale property owners.

Downtown Springdale Alliance is delighted to award the following artists with mural grants:

Artist: Jason Jones

Mural Description: A colorful flowing fish that wraps around a wall. The design is an attempt to create something soothing and healing while adding a splash of color and whimsy to the alley.

Property Owner: Emma Midtown, LLC

Artist: Roxy Erikson

Mural Description: The concept is simply a fun nod to Arkansas summer. The theme invokes a sense of nostalgia during any season.

Property Owner: Payton Parker

Artist: Octavio Logo

Mural Description: A personal exploration about diversity and community development. An emotional landscape of immigration, love and nature.

Property Owner: Holcomb Arts District, LLC

Artist: Mary Beth Breshears

Mural Description: The design is a message of healing, strength, renewal and community. It is inspired by the many Marshallese that live in Springdale, our students, friends, and neighbors. Students from Springdale High School and the Teen Action and Support Center will be painting the mural.

Property Owner: The Jones Center

“Beautiful and meaningful art is such an important cornerstone to a vibrant downtown development,” notes Jill Dabbs, Executive Director of Downtown Springdale Alliance. “We are thrilled to provide this opportunity to such talented local artists and can’t wait to see their completed murals.”

The murals are due to be completed on or before April 15th.
