Monarch Flight Festival Takes Flight at Luther George Park September 20
Springdale, AR - The Monarch Flight Festival returns on Saturday, September 20, from 11 AM to 4 PM, in a new location - Luther George Park in Downtown Springdale. Previously held at Turnbow Park and Shiloh Square, the festival moves to the newly remodeled Luther George Park, offering even more space for families and community partners to gather in celebration of the monarch butterfly and its incredible migration from Canada to Mexico.
Hosted by the Downtown Springdale Alliance and sponsored by the Tyson Family Foundation and Walmart, the festival is a free, family-friendly event that emphasizes environmental education, community engagement, and the importance of protecting pollinators and local ecosystems.
This year’s festival promises a rich variety of activities designed to engage visitors of all ages. Throughout the day, attendees can participate in hands-on learning experiences, including seed planting, crafts, interactive storytimes, face painting, and other creative workshops hosted by a diverse group of community partners. Participating organizations include Springdale Public Library, Shiloh Museum of Ozark History, Botanical Garden of the Ozarks, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, Northwest Arkansas Master Naturalists, Illinois River Watershed Partnership, J.O. Kelly Middle School EAST Program, and more.
Food lovers will be pleased to find a selection of offerings from Downtown Springdale restaurants as well as a variety of food trucks stationed throughout the park, serving up delicious meals and refreshing beverages.
Families who arrive early can pick up one of 1,000 colorful butterfly wings for children to wear throughout the festival. Quantities are limited and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets to relax and enjoy the day’s festivities.
As the day winds down, the excitement will build toward the Monarch Flight Parade along the Redwine Walking Trail, a highlight of the event where the community comes together in a lively procession to honor the monarchs journey.
The Monarch Flight Festival is an opportunity to raise awareness about the vital role pollinators play in our environment and to promote ecological resilience through civic engagement and education. The event welcomes all members of the community to experience the magic of nature while fostering a sense of shared responsibility for protecting our planet.
